Lake level is 711.33 and rising with water temp in the mid to upper 60s in the lower part of the lake.  The mid lake area is  lightly stained and some areas are pretty muddy.  We had showers most every day at some point but the fish kept right on biting. Bob & Don The crappie spawn is over and was a real strange one.  The water temperature hardly reached the right point and it was game on and game over.  Seems like most of the crappie are in the 12-14 foot range in 20-30feet of water.  Minnows and jigs and 1/8 oz jigs tipped with minnows are working real well.  Trolling a flicker shad or a shad rap are producing stringers of good crappie.  As far as the white bass, they are hitting spoons of weights from 1/2 0z to  1 1/2 oz sizes with white or green chartreuse working the best.  There are a lot of small hybrids mixed in with the whites at this time.  Big hybrids are eating small

Lake level is 707.23 with water temp in the mid 60s in the lower part of the lake.  The mid lake area is  lightly stained and some areas are pretty muddy.  Wind has been a real pain this past week with it reaching 30 mph and gust above 40.  Rain seems to be in the forecast this coming week, but the fish are still biting. Crappie are spawning and the white bass are keeping them company.  My trips this week have caught both crappie and white bass in the shallows as well as white bass on the humps in the dam area.  Seems like most of the crappie are in the 5-12 foot range with very few right at the bank.  Black and Chartreuse Swarm Jigs and white and chartreuse Cuda Delights with an orange 1/8oz head have been deadly this year.  As far as the white bass, they are hitting spoons of weights from 1/2 0z to  1 1/2 oz sizes with white or silver working the best.  There are a lot of small

Lake level is 712.09 and water temp is 54 in the lower part of the lake.  The mid lake area is  lightly stained and some areas are pretty muddy. Crappie fishing has been good in the  mid-lake area with the best bite in the mid-day in the spawning coves in 18 to 23 feet of water right on the bottom.  Jigs tipped with a minnow have been the key for us all week.  With the constant change in the weather the water remains variable and not steady and certainly not reaching that 65 degree mark. hours I have an update on White Bass hanging around the Dam area.  Yesterday afternoon (Thursday 4/22) Three of us got our limits in just over two hours on spoons.  Sapps Landing should be crowded this time of the year. Many limits of crappie and white bass are being taken below the dam in the "Dead Water" area, and they are not hard to find.  Just get in with the other 500 boaters and pick you out a 2 foot

Lake level is 706.36 and water temp is 34 in the lower part of the lake.  The mid lake area is clear to lightly stained and some patches of ice early in the mornings.  The ice should disappear by 9-10am and with the warmer temperatures and high winds forecasted for this coming week along with the rain, should make a huge difference. Crappie fishing has been good in the  mid-lake area with the best bite in the mid-day on brush piles about 20-25 feet deep. Steve Blake and I went on a "research trip" together on Friday and caught over 100 keeper crappie and save 12 to split for supper.  All fish were caught on 1/4 oz pink jigs with pink and green chartreuse swarmjigs.  The bite was really light on the bigger fish.  We also found a lot of fish midway in the coves at various depths but mainly in the 25 foot range in 30-35 deep channels...That means they are moving in for the feed up before the spawn. Of course it is

The Lake is at normal pool 706.09 and the lake is pretty much frozen and so am I.  I'll be back when the lake thaws and the temperature get back in the high 30s......If you do venture out on the lake be very careful of air pockets and thin ice.  Better yet just perk another pot of coffee, turn on the TV, and install a rear end in your recliner....See ya all soon, Ole Bob

Lake level is 707.77 and water temp is 40.1 in the lower part of the lake.  The Grand remains slightly stained while most of the rest of the lake is clear. Crappie fishing has picked up the mid-lake area and there have been some "biguns" taken.   I have found tons of  fish in the trees about 25-30 feet deep on the bluffs some only 12-15 ft. deep....It's interesting that the Whitebass  are still hanging around on those deep bluffs also and if you drop in on a band of shad, you have not idea what is going to hit....The week was different as the shad were right on the bottom in a band 3-4 feet thick and the crappie and white bass were right in the middle of them and were hitting anything that moved in the band.  One time a crappie next time a white.  Great fishing, lousy weather....maybe the key? Cody's Bait & Tackle has a complete new supply of my 1/4 and 1/8 oz short shank jigs which have been the ticket

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM OLD BOB Lake level is 705.87 and water temp is 43 in the lower part of the lake.  The Grand remains stained while most of the rest of the lake is clear. Crappie fishing has been a little slow in the mid-lake area but there have been some "biguns" taken.  Steve Blake had a "toad" that by most measurement was almost if not a 3lb. Slab taken from 20 ft right off the bottom.  I have found tons of small fish in the trees about 25-30 feet deep on the bluffs....It's interesting that the Whitebass  are still hanging around on those deep bluffs also and if you drop in on a band of shad, you have not idea what is going to hit.... Cody's Bait & Tackle has a complete new supply of my 1/4 and 1/8 oz short shank jigs which have been the ticket for Steve Blake and I for crappie, whites, and even a walleye or two... I would like to take this opportunity

Fishing Report for December 11, 2020

2020-12-11T12:27:54+00:00December 11th, 2020|Truman Fishing|

Lake level is 705.97 with the surface temperature at 45 warming in the afternoons to 48 in the Osage area near the dam. Crappie fishing is starting to look up in the mid-lake area.  The crappie are moving off the brush piles and onto the bluffs about 19-22 feet deep a foot off the bottom.  Upper lake areas are producing good fish.  Looks like the winter pattern  is about to begin as the water temperature drops the shad will move to deeper water and so will the fish.  I used 1/4oz white jig with a Swarmjig white/chartreuse body to catch some really nice crappie. This past week with the really nice weather the little crappie really moved in and took over.  It has been difficult to catch those 10-13 inchers in the mid lake area but if you're patient and weed through them the biggins will get a chance at your lure. White Bass and Hybrids have fallen off my scope for the year but every now and then a white will hit a crappie

Lake level is 704.48.  The water temp 53 degrees in the Osage and Grand.  The water is slightly colored in the Osage and slightly colored to stained in the Grand Arm.  Some of the coves on the north side of the lake are somewhat warmer. Crappie fishing is starting to look up in the mid-lake area.  The crappie are moving off the brush piles and onto the bluffs about 19-22 feet deep a foot off the bottom.  Upper lake areas are producing good fish.  Looks like the fall feed up is about to begin as the water temperature drops the shad will move to shallows and so will the fish.  I used 1/4oz white jig with a Swarmjig white/chartreuse body to catch some really nice crappie. White Bass  are on the windy banks using Sliders, shad raps and inline spinners. I caught a few nice ones on jigs crappie fishing. Hybrids were moving up to feed on shad in the windblown coves and shallow points.  Single blade 3/8oz spinner baits, sliders and shad raps are
