Fredrick H. Baraks, age 74, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017, at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was born on July, 2, 1943, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Raymond L. and Nellie M. Maas Baraks. 

Fred graduated high school in Coal Valley, Illinois, and on November 17, 1967, he was united in marriage to Janice K. Gibson. They made their home in Coal Valley and he worked for the city as the water and sewer superintendent.

In 1982, Fred came to Truman Lake in Missouri on a fishing trip and after several days fishing, a marina owner told him that he was a pretty good fisherman and should move to Missouri and become a guide, so that’s what he did. He moved his family to Warsaw in June of 1984 and was a fishing guide out of Osage Bluff Marina on Truman Lake.  Around 1990 Fred and Jan started going to Florida for the winters and Fred was a guide on Lake Okeechobee. He also got his Boat Captains License so he was able to guide on any water including the ocean.

He was a member and past president of the Truman Lake Guides Association, the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce, and Faith Lutheran Church of Warsaw. He had also been a member of Lions Club back in Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife Jan, of the home, a daughter, Sarah Brown, and her husband Randy, of Columbia, Missouri, a son, Raymond Baraks, of Blue Springs, Missouri, a sister, Nancy Smart, and her husband Roger, of E. Moline, Illinois, a brother, David Baraks, and his wife Georgia, of Coal Valley, Illinois, two grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and six step great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held for Fred on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 1:00 P.M. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Warsaw with Pastor Morris Meseke, officiatied.  Memorials in memory of Fred can be made to the family and they will distribute them to several charities in his memory.
